A Color Appearance Model Applicable in Mesopic Vision
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a color vision model that can be used to predict color appearance in mesopic vision as well as photopic and scotopic vision. It is based on a two-stage model which consists of the cone and opponent stages and it assumes rod intrusion at the opponent stage. The model has the following features to describe the color appearance in mesopic vision. First, it includes a gradual and nonlinear shift in spectral luminous efficiency from Vð Þ to V 0ð Þ to cope with the spectral sensitivity difference between photopic and scotopic vision and the nonlinearity of rod influence on the luminance channel. Second, the model assumes decrease of the chromatic component with decreasing illuminance to explain the reduction of saturation at low illuminance levels. Third, it assumes that red/green and yellow/blue components change with illuminance levels independently, thus explaining hue shifts with decreasing illuminance. We applied the model for color appearance simulation of natural scenes in a mesopic visual environment.

A Retargeting Approach for Mesopic Vision: Simulation and Compensation
Retargeting approaches aim at providing a unified framework for image rendering in which both the intended scene luminance and the actual luminance of the display are taken into account. At the core of any color retargeting method, a color vision model and its inverse are employed. Such a color appearance model should be invertible and cover the entire luminance range of the human visual system...

Tone mapping algorithms should be informed by accurate color appearance models (CAM) in order that the perceptual fidelity of the rendering is maintained by the tone mapping transformations. Current tone mapping techniques, however, suffer from a lack of good color appearance models for mesopic conditions. There are only a few currently available appearance models suited to the mesopic range, n...
متن کاملRod contributions to color perception: Linear with rod contrast
At mesopic light levels, an incremental change in rod activation causes changes in color appearance. In this study, we investigated how rod mediated changes in color perception varied as a function of the magnitude of the rod contrast. Rod-mediated changes in color appearance were assessed by matching them with cone-mediated color changes. A two-channel four-primary colorimeter allowed independ...
متن کاملColour vision and visual performance in the mesopic range of vision
The aim of this work is to predict mesopic detection contrast thresholds for spectral increments on a fixed uniform mesopic background. A compound contrast-type quantity C including achromatic and chromatic terms is defined. The detection threshold is characterized by C=1. From this criterion, a spectral non-additivity formula (NA) is derived for a mesopic luminance difference type quantity. Ac...

Evidence has accumulated that rod activation under mesopic and scotopic light levels alters visual perception and performance. Here we review the most recent developments in the measurement of rod and cone contributions to mesopic color perception and temporal processing, with a focus on data measured using a four-primary photostimulator method that independently controls rod and cone excitatio...
